Canadian wins Super G

Saturday, March 13th, 2010

Canadian skier Erik Guay was very pleased with himself when he won the World Cup Super G. After skiing beautifully on Mont Tremblant, the skier said he was ecstatic about winning and had been dreaming about it since he was a kid.

Guay who did not expect to come anywhere near where he did had gone into the race as an outsider as he hadn’t won any major skiing competitions for the last three years. Even Guay himself was starting to give up on any chance of winning anything like the World Cup Super G.

Whether you are a professional skier or a beginner, there are a number of safety aspects you need to consider before you hit the slopes. Wearing a helmet is becoming increasingly important and all of the professional skiers in the World Cup wear snow helmets to protect their heads whilst they are skiing.

Investing in a snow helmet from Quiksilver or Roxy could be the best decision you have ever made and it will ensure that you do not suffer any serious damage to your head should have a fall whilst out enjoying the snow.

Canada finally wins a medal in the skiing

Friday, February 26th, 2010

As the snow started to fall on Cypress Mountain near Vancouver, the participants in the women’s ski cross event were preparing themselves for a tight race. They knew that every second was going to count and they need to make the most of the opportunity that they were being given. The weather wasn’t going to stand in their way of getting their hands on an Olympic medal.

Canadian Ashleigh McIvor certainly wasn’t going to let the weather stop her as she raced down the mountain side. She wanted to impress the hundreds if not thousands of Canadians who had come out in force to support her as she raced against her competitors.

McIvor’s effort paid off and she went on to win the first medal by a Canadian skier at the Winter Olympic Games in Vancouver. Both the male and female Canadian skiers have failed to get any medal of any colour during these games until now. Many of the Canadian fans who have been watching the skiing events have been very disappointed with their country’s performance.

Following close behind Ashleigh was Hedda Berntsen of Norway who also put on a great show for the crowds that had flocked in their snow gear from Quiksilver to watch the skiing events.

White attempts hardest trick to gain gold

Thursday, February 25th, 2010

If you are an avid snowboarding fan then you will have heard of an individual called Shaun White. Shaun White has been a sensation in the snowboarding world for a number of years and won the Olympic gold for snowboarding in Turin, Italy in 2006. He went to the Olympic Games in Vancouver with high hopes and he did not disappoint the large number of fans that came out to watch him board.

During the final of the men’s snowboarding half pipe final, White knew that he had to perform something amazing if he was going to get his hands on another Olympic Gold medal. He decided to attempt the Double McTwist 1260 which is known as one of the hardest tricks in the business because it contains a number of different twists and turns which makes it very difficult to land. However, White managed to pull it off and managed to secure the Olympic Gold medal once again.

Most snowboarders attempt to do jumps and tricks whilst they are on the slopes but often don’t realise how seriously they can hurt themselves. By wearing your Quiksilver helmet you can be sure that you are snowboarding safely.

Americans skiing away with all the medals

Monday, February 22nd, 2010

The Americans appear to be having considerable more luck than the Canadians at winning medals in at the Winter Olympic Games which are currently being held in Vancouver and in the surrounding ski resorts.
Many of the American sportsmen and women have managed to win multiple medals at these games which are very impressive. Bode Miller, the male skier has joined his fellow Americans such as Lindsey Vonn, who is another skier and Julia Mancuso in winning more than one medal.

Bode who won a silver and bronze earlier in the week, managed to top it off with a gold medal in the alpine skiing men’s super combined event. This just goes to show what a fantastic skier that Bode Miller is. He has helped to raise the profile of skiing considerably during his skiing career and he looks to continue to impress fellow skiers around the world for the next few years at least.

Although the mere mortals who head to the slopes once a year might not be able to compete on the same level as Miller or Vonn, we still look forward to donning our Quiksilver and Roxy snow gear and hitting the slopes.
